OBJECTIVES
This course offers health professionals and volunteers involved in geriatrics and palliative care a complete and in-depth training in the field of palliative care applied to gerontology. The main objectives are to improve the theoretical knowledge and professional skills of the different actors involved in the accompaniment of elderly people in the palliative phase, regardless of their place of professional practice or their intervention status.
TARGET AUDIENCE AND PREREQUISITES
Doctors, nurses, health managers, care assistants, psychologists, social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychomotor therapists, psycho-socio-aestheticians, osteopaths, volunteers who are members of a patient support association. Medical students in the process of completing their DES and students of health training courses in the target audience. Applicants for registration must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

- Palliative care,
- Accompanying an elderly person at the end of life,
- Pain management in the elderly,
- Other end-of-life symptoms prevalent in geriatrics and their management,
- Development of the care project and collegial implementation,
- Geriatric specialties and palliative care,
- Sedation in the palliative phase,
- How to respond to the request for euthanasia?
- The care of the deceased and their loved ones.
METHODS
The DU uses innovative teaching methods. This is a blended learning course with 141 hrs:
- 100 hours of distance learning,
- 20 hours of face-to-face instruction, available for viewing after the first seminar at a time convenient to the learner.
- 7 hours of tutoring per learner,
- 14 hours of internships.
The educational platform includes (in addition to the recorded courses):
- A discussion forum open to learners, tutors and educational leaders,
- A messaging system, as well as a library of useful documents and links for learners,
- Self-assessment modules on recorded courses.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF KNOWLEDGE CONTROL
Written exam consisting of a 1.5 hour test.
A make-up session is scheduled for September.
The DU is validated if the following conditions are met:
- Score ≥ 12/20 on the written exam
- Validated internship
