The OECI awards the European “Comprehensive Cancer Center” label of excellence to the AP-HP Sorbonne University Cancer Institute

On 16 June 2023, the AP-HP Sorbonne University Cancer Institute, which oversees the cancer care, research and teaching activities of the AP-HP Sorbonne University hospital group (which includes the Charles-Foix, Pitié-Salpêtrière, Saint-Antoine, Rothschild, Tenon, Trousseau and La Roche-Guyon hospitals) and Sorbonne University, was awarded the label “University Cancer Institute” at the Oncology Days 2023 in Paris. Comprehensive Cancer Center “issued by the OECI – Organisation of European Cancer Institute. This European accreditation, awarded for 5 years, rewards the commitment and quality of work of the teams involved in the care of cancer patients.

Every year, the IUC teams offer personalised care to more than 16,000 patients of all ages, for all types of cancer. They implement the full range of care procedures and are involved at every stage of the cancer journey, from cancer risk assessment (through the risk management platform) and fertility preservation to post-cancer care. This comprehensive and coordinated care means that the IUC can be considered a “comprehensive cancer centre”.

Accreditation as a Comprehensive Cancer Centre thanks to the mobilisation of all the teams

The collective effort to prepare for this visit included a self-assessment by the 90 teams involved, followed by a visit by OECI auditors to ensure that practices were in line with OECI requirements in terms of the quality of overall patient care.
